Holiday Gift Ideas for Health
I adore the holidays as it is a time to celebrate and relax from a year of hard work and endurance. It is a time to slow down, enjoy, reflect, appreciate and reconnect with friends and family. It’s always nice to show up with a gift, so to help ease the anxiety of gift-giving guesswork, I have compiled a list of things that almost everyone can enjoy!
Thermos Travel Mug Sipping hot water throughout the day is great for stoking the digestive fire. You will love how easy it is to carry around teas and hot water!
Electric Tea Pot If you’re like me, it’s easy to go through a lot of hot water, and who has time to heat it up in a kettle on the stove? My favorite tea pot is the Cuisinart Stainless Steel Cordless Electric Kettle. It has a cooler temp setting for drinking tea right away, as well as sizzling hot temps for teas and herbal formulas that have to steep longer. This is one of my prized possessions!
Everyday Ayurveda Cooking for a Calm, Clear Mind: 100 Simple Sattvic Recipes A great cookbook for inspiration and easy to make recipes. It offers some traditional ayurvedic meals, but also many “normal” things that will be fun to try too. Great photography too!
Thermos Food Jar Tote around hot, home-cooked meals to work, on the road, to school, or just to eat whenevs. This is a great way to haul around a fabulous soup, stew, rice dish, casserole, so you don’t have to order a burger and fries.
Cast Iron Skillet A must-have for any kitchen! This will be your home cooking lifeline – from a grilled cheese to a beautiful risotto, this pan not only rocks the recipes, it is easy to clean, and it provides iron that cooks right into your food from the pan. Note that excess iron can cause health problems, so the cast iron pan is best for vegetarians and menstruating women. Please do not buy any skillets that have non-stick layers on them. If cast iron isn’t your thing, consider a beautiful All Clad pan. I love mine, although I have to use a little steel wool to clean it, still super easy!
Staub Cast Iron French Oven Everybody is more inspired to be in the kitchen when they have nice cooking gear. This French oven is great for soups, casseroles, meats, vegetables, everything! It heats up like a champ and works on the stove top or in the oven. I make so many meals in mine – I would be lost without it.
Essential Oils Everyone loves fragrance. Treat somebody to a beautiful lavender oil for their diffuser at bedtime, or eucalyptus for a spa experience in the shower, frankincense for a yoga practice, or tea tree and peppermint oils for cleaning. Perfect for the hard-to-shop for person!
Gourmet Salts Salts are great for ayurvedic living. Pink salt is great for vatas to cook with. Course sea salts are great for the bath tub and facial scrubs. And smoked sea salt! I haven’t tried that one yet, but it is definitely on my list!
Homemade Ghee Give somebody a gorgeous little 7 oz jar of ghee, homemade at Maria’s Bungalow d’Ayurveda! $10 per jar. Ghee is great for all doshas, stokes the digestive fire, and is great as a cooking oil since it has a high burn temperature. Add a little ghee to grains, vegetables, warm milk before bed, even warm desserts like apples!
Ayurvedic Consult Give the gift of health. Gift certificates for introductory consults (90-minutes) are $75 for friends (normally priced $95). The recipient of this amazing gift will meet with me in person or online and receive guidance on food choices, lifestyle and routine, exercise, herbs and sleep. I will assess the natural dosha, imbalance, digestive fire and see if there is “ama” which could require a little simple cleanse. You should probably treat yourself to a consult as well, so I’ll honor the same price if you’re buying a gift!
Wishing you a beautiful and festive Holiday Season filled with blessings, surprises, warmth and love!
